1. Obstructing

I like my partner’s 2 bid here, it takes away fourth suit forcing and a load of bidding space as well. In my opinion it doesn’t really qualify as an immediate weak jump because of the meager suit quality and the four card suit, but in the rebound it looks fine. The lack of high cards is nauseating, but your distribution makes up for action.

I showed my discomfort about the auction with a sweaty double. And it was up to my partner to pull the winning lead from her collection.

She kicked off with a small trump. Olympic gold!

Holidays

Hi all

I’m off for holidays. Here’s a small impression what I’m going to do the next three weeks in America. Don’t be jealous, it’s my first true vacation in years. Well, be a little jealous.

Changes

Hi all

Big updates. The layout has gone through a giant makeover, code updates all around, I think my site has been updated to the latest standards and technology. Hoek, I thank you for your help and attention, I’m happy! I will implement some other small things later this week, but they will be merely cosmetic (ajax anyone?).

More big news: I’ve opened up comments. Register first and you’re all very welcome to post your comments and ideas. First I have a small warning, I don’t like spam or near-empty comments. They will be trashed without mercy.

I don’t know, should I call this Vikings In Space 2.0 now? What do you think?

Peter-Paul & Anne

Hi all

Drumroll please! Here they are: the newlyweds.

Peter-Paul and Anne arranged their wedding (April 6th, 2007) in the old city hall in The Hague, a beautiful serene place. It seemed as if everybody there was holding his/her breath, all listening to the speech in Dutch and German. There was definitely magic in the air when they said “Yes” to eachother.

Party time! We went to a lounge bar in the vicinity. It was a well catered event, starting with champagne and then unlimited amounts of wine and beer. All accompanied with small dishes, ranging from blue cheese with pear to excellent carpaccio to deepfried delicacies. Mix that with warm music and lovely people (some of them singing German songs) and you got yourself a super party. If I ever get married, I want to throw a party like they did.

Teasing

Hi all

It was so funny, one of my latest posts contained the word “threesome” and suddenly I had an increase in visitors searching my pages for it. They must have been very disappointed. @Those visitors: there’s plenty to find out there (but I’ll see what I can do for you).

Today I’d like to tell you about my first time. Playing poker I mean. I spent a rainy Sunday afternoon on one of the bigger pokersites, under supervision of course. I’m not hooked (yet), but now I understand how people can completely lose themselves. The thrill, the excitement, the need to win, I saw it all.

Here’s my small idiot’s guide to poker:
The majority of people playing poker online are just gibbering fools, they have no clue about statistics or strength of hand.
Patience, patience, and some more patience. You have to wait for good cards and shouldn’t try to win hands on bluff or luck. You have to have the longest breath.

Next time poker will be a live event with friends. I want to see the bluff parameter. Playing online means you cannot see the tiny twitches in the corners of your opponents eyes, inhale the sweaty smell of fear or feel any of the vibrations at the table. I know I’m not that difficult to read, but I’m very susceptible to vibes. That, my knowledge of statistics and the patient person I am will not make me a huge pokerplayer, but I think I can be a dangerous opponent. Maybe playing poker will increase some of my skills as a bridge player.

Good Deed Chocolates

Hi all

If you could just see me now, I’m radiant.

I found a cellphone in the train today. It was a stylish black LG thingie. Finders keepers? Well, the thought crossed my mind. But 5 minutes later I already had arranged a meeting with the owner. He bought me some chocolates as a reward. I felt so… “Baden Powellish”. Now before I start an endless monologue about altruism, and if it really exists. It doesn’t matter. Do good, receive good. That’s what matters.

I leave you with another bronze statue. Next saturday (February 3rd) in the Zeemanskerk in Rotterdam, be there.
